Ron Mitchell Photo Terry Phillips from Springfield, Missouri is the 2009 O'Reilly MARS DIRTcar Series Champion. Phillips picks up his fifth title in the 10 year old series, previously claiming the championship in 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2008. Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Arkansas is the only other points champion as he won the championship in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007. Eric Turner of Springfield, Missouri finished second in the final rundown. Jeremy Payne of Springfield, Missouri; Brandon McCormick of Lebanon, Missouri; Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Missouri; Darrell Mooneyham of Verona, Missouri; Rylan Long of Lockwood, Missouri; Bill Frye; Will Vaught of Crane, Missouri and Leroy Johnson of Springfield, Missouri rounded out the top 10. Eric Turner is the 2009 Hatfield Racing Engines Rookie of the Year. Tony Jackson Jr. came in second and Rylan Long, third. During the 2009 season, twenty races were held with an astounding thirteen different drivers finding their way to victory lane. Eric Turner, Jeremy Payne and Wendell Wallace tied at three wins each for the most victories. The MARS series would like to thank everyone that helped to make this year such a success.
